Well whaddayouknow, another live gig of Dead Man Ray, and it was another fantastic one! After a not bad but exhausting gig by the Wizards of Ooze, and a long and boring soundcheck of Dead Man Ray, I couldn’t be happier when they finally played the first notes of “Woods”. They followed with Tunnels, Tham, and “a song about horses”, Toothpaste. Daan was in the mood for fooling around with the audience, because that night, Chemical was about razor blades, Nezt about butchers, and Beegee had something to do with Barbara Streisand.
Rudy was motionless during the whole gig, except for his outrageous screams in the wicked ‘Blind Surfer’. The rest of the performance went as great as we’ve grown to expect from Dead Man Ray- even though they only played a modest number of live gigs this year, the difference between the ‘early’ ones and the most recent ones is clear.
Unlike the more ‘usual’ encore of Copy of ’78, this time they played Preset, possibly because a ten year-old was waving a piece of paper in front of them requesting for that particular song.
Other notable events were Elko spending half of ‘Horse’ trying to get the effect pedal for his guitar working again, and Thomas Noppe (Gore Slut)
helping out setting up the equipment for Daan & co during the soundcheck. Oh, and Rudy’s hair was still dyed ridiculously blond…:)
