Compared to 50%, this is definitely more what a single should be like. The edit of Boots is acceptable, but that’s not what we’re interested in. The studio session Boots is okay too- it’s Daan solo on his acoustic guitar. I like the track better in the more ‘voluminous’ album version, but this one is definitely good enough as well. The tracks Nun and Japanese cars both are pretty good, but they do sound more like Dead Man Ray songs than Daan ones to me. Especially Japanese cars is a bit more on the experimental side, and has a bit of a dirty sound to it too. Nun is a bit different from Daan’s other songs as it has a very prominent electric guitar riff in it. I definitely like it- it’s very energetic and a bit less poppy than Daan’s other solo music.
In my opinion, Boots is a nice little single, and especially since it already sometimes can be found in some bargain bins, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get this.
