This is a fantastic album. It took the nation by storm in 1998 (well, sort of), surprising everyone with the insanely original sound Dead Man Ray were producing. A couple of singles were released, and in less than a few months, Dead Man Ray suddenly was a fantastic fresh breeze in the already diverse Belgian musical landscape. This incredible debut album features some fantastic lo-fi, semi-distorted, anarchistic pop music. Impossible to accurately describe, this is definitely a small milestone in history of European music.
Based on improvisations by the band, converted to unpredictable cut-up structures, loads of Sherman filterbank effects and some beautiful surreal singing by Daan Stuyven, this album never stops to amaze. Don’t miss it.

This premature promo of berchem was made months before the final release of what would turn out to be dead man ray's debut. The album was still titled 'Flat hearing aid' back then, and the about fifty percent of the songs on this cd are in rougher mix versions compared to the final ones. I don't know wether this promo actually got released, all i know is it exists. There are two completely new tracks to be found (lost id#, which is simply a short sample of a screaming guitar, and blind, a terrific poppy song in the now well known dead man ray tradition). Two more tracks ([new delhi] rontgen [scan] and suncomfort) were cut for the final album, but they appeared later on the chemical maxi-single.
My copy misses the front cover, so what you're looking at (above right) is the backside of it.
