The odd thing about this album, is Rudy said when he played it to his friends, they all thought it was good, but also a very sad album. Myself, I haven’t heard many jollier albums than this one. Stuffed with lovely small tunes, samples, guitar noises, screaming background vocals and some really ‘unusual’ lyrics, in my opinion Lionell Horrowitz and his Combo truly make music to get cheerful from. It’s not much of a concept album- there are tunes on here which were recorded seven years before they ended on this cd, others were recorded only a few months before the printing. Strangely though, they do seem to perfectly match each other. There are several indefinable sounds, which make Lionell Horrowitz instantly recognisable. That doesn’t however mean there are moments of ‘déjà vû’ on Au bain marie- au contraire. To some, it might need some getting used to, but this is an absolute little gem. |
