EL FISH |
More or less the only contemporary Belgian blues band to speak of. They have a couple of interesting, semi-experimental melodious blues albums out, among which a soundtrack for a belgian lo-fi film called 'A12'. Their frontman and singer Filip Casteels left the band in the summer of 2000, but the rest of the band went on without him. |

EL TATTOO DEL TIGRE |
A unique band from all across Flanders. Basically, El Tattoo del Tigre is one big mambo-orchestra which plays covers of traditional rhythmic cuban songs. The music is done by an enthusiastic big band of (mostly) brass-instruments, the singing by members of de Kakkewieten and freelance vocalists. A live band only, which guarantees for a cheerful, funny and danceable show. |

FRANCO SAINT DE BAKKER |
Franco
Saint De Bakker is an Antwerp jazz combo, founded by Elko Blijweert and
Karel de Bakker of Dead Man Ray. To my knowledge, the first gig they did
was at the 'Rock the vote' festival in Antwerp, October 7th 2000. From
what I understood, FSDB is just Elko Blijweert and Karel de Backer, who
play on stage with several guests. They've always played together with those 'guests' so far though, so it's actually more of a real band now. Along with Elko and Karel play Frans Van Isacker (sax), Thomas Sainderichin (contrabas) and Joris Caluwaerts (piano). Both times I saw them play live, Sigrid Van Rosendaal played trumpet as well, and Rudy Trouvé contributed to their performance too, by reading a couple of pages from a sweaty, sixties porn pulp novel (or something) through the most lo-fi microphone possible, while the band was playing an epic jazz composition called 'Air Raid'. Very sexy. Franco Saint de Bakker play nothing but covers and interpretations from jazz pieces from the sixties and before. Coltrane, Burell and Flanagan are the most quoted jazz heroes by FSDB. Seeing as they play only covers at the moment, FSDB is very much a live band, and will very unlikely release anything soon. Another Rudy Trouvé-link is on the Gore Slut gig in the A.B., november 11th 2000, almost everyone from Franco Saint de Bakker joined Gore Slut for an (excellent) version of Crawling to Target #2. |

GILLIS, HERMAN |
He’s
the inventor of the ‘Sherman filterbank’, and as an old fellow band
member of one of Daan Stuyven’s older bands, he controlled the
filterbank on some Dead Man Ray tracks. The man also has a website of his own filterbank... |

GHINZU |
Promising
newly founded band from the Brussels' area. They play eclectic, noisy
poptracks not entirely unlike Mad Dog Loose or dEUS on Worst Case Scenario. Good band, if you ask me. |

GOLF |
With one release so far and a handful of gigs behind them, it would be a
correct analysis to say Golf is (at the moment) nothing more than a
hobby-project. In the band are Herman Houbrechts (ex-drummer with Dead
Man Ray), Bram (plays guitar with Lionell Horrowitz), and Aldo, who must
have about as many hobby and side-projects behind him as Rudy Trouvé
himself. Aldo considers Golf a 'bedroom recording' band. Recording at home on four-track, rehearsing barely enough to play anything coherent together, it sounds all strangely familiar. The band played a few times around Antwerp, as well as once as support act for Kiss My Jazz, in the A.B., december 27th 1997. On their one split-single Radionation, Rudy helped out with the recording. According to Aldo, Golf have enough material on tape to release a full album, but seeing as everyone is busy with other projects nowadays, it remains to be seen if we'll ever hear anything else from this charming little band. Fingers crossed, because their first single sounded promising. |

HOOVERPHONIC |
Popular Belgian band which produces easy poptunes. Their music testifies more of craftsmanship than originality, but their success in Belgium and even the United States proves Hooverphonic know how to please a certain audience. |

HOUBRECHTS, HERMAN |
He used to be the drummer of Nemo, and also used to be the drummer of Dead Man Ray until he quit the band in March 2000. In stead he went playing in Mauro Pawlowski’s new band, ‘Mauro and the Inferno’s’. He was already together with Mauro in Mitsoobishy Jacson. |

JANZOONS, KLAAS |
Another
shared dEUS past, Klaas was the roommate of Rudy when they toured with
dEUS. In an interview, Klaas tells about a dEUS-tour when he found Rudy
in the bathtub one morning, where he had fallen asleep in ice cold
water. Additional comment by Klaas: 'he's a weird guy'... Klaas plays the violin and keyboards, as well in his solo project, ‘Seven deadly violins’, of which I heard nothing so far. (but very much would like to!) |

JESPERS, AARICH |
He’s the drummer of Kiss My Jazz, and he also made some wicked 4-track recordings for that band. He’s also in Zita Swoon, where he is in a sample loop on their most recent album. The sample is taken from a rehearsal together with Rudy Trouvé, Daan Stuyven and the Lenski brothers. Aarich also made some 4-tracks and samples for Gore Slut. |

JORENS, PIET |
Piet Jorens appears on a few tracks of Kiss my Jazz releases ‘In Coffee we trust’ and ‘In a service station’. Shortly after Rudy left dEUS, Piet Jorens joined them for a while. |

KAMINO |
Excellent Antwerp-based band, risen from the ashes of naNCy*. They make deliciously semi-cheesy, cleverly constructed poptunes. The band doesn't aim for big success, which is probably one of their biggest trump cards. They have two EPs and since late 2000 also an album out. |

KING OF WILRIJK |
After months of guessing, I can finally tell you the King Of Wilrijk is none other than the great Mark Meyers. During the recording of 'In Doc's Place, Friday Evening', he disappeared a few times, leaving everybody guessing of his whereabouts. In those days, he lived in Wilrijk, hence the name. |

LANGBROEK, HEYME |
Joined Rudy in Kiss My Jazz and Lionell Horowitz and his combo, playing sax and the trumpet.
He has also been seen in an Antwerp band called 'Vacuum Child'. Since july 2001, he's also in charge of the official heavenhotel website. |

LE JUNTER, FRÉDÉRIQUE |
Another one involved in the 110m² project. |

LENSKI, SIMON & BUNI |
On Zita Swoon’s 'Plage Tattoo' album (2000) there was a sample loop of a Rudy Trouvé rehearsal together with the Lenski brothers, Daan Stuyven and Aarich Jespers. The Lenski’s were also occasional members of Kiss My Jazz, and jammed with Dead Man Ray on Dour festival '98, as well as with Rudy Trouvé and some other musicians at Pukkelpop '98. Recently, Adrian Lenski joined DAAU as well, but so far he didn't do anything with Rudy Trouvé yet. |
MAD DOG LOOSE |
Extremely
promising Belgian band from the mid-nineties. They made delicious
pop-blues music, and released a handful EPs and one album.
Unfortunately, the band split up after the singer/composer suffered from
some sort of mental problems. Without a shadow of doubt, a huge loss to the belgian scene. |
www.mad_dog_loose |
MARIS, BART |
Did some brass on two tracks on Dead Man Ray’s first album, and played along as well in 'de Tramjeanetten'. Bart appeared on about half of every Belgian album recently, as he does trumpet where ever they need him; Janez Detd, Think of One, Kamino, dEUS, Flat Earth Society, A Group, and many more. He also appeared on the Project Doos! cd-rom. |

METAL MOLLY |
Yet another band to emerge from the Rock Rally finals (1994 this time), Metal Molly scored success with likeable, noisy guitar-poprock music. They had a big hit in Belgium in 1996, with a song called 'Orange'. The band split up shortly afterwards because of arguments between the guitar players, but they re-united in 1999. |

MEYERS, MARK |
Mr. Meyers was replaced by Rudy in 1992 when he left dEUS in the early days. He also used to be in Kiss My Jazz in their earlier days, and made a surprise appearance at one of the last Kiss My Jazz gigs ever, in Brussels. He's known for his 'outrageous', wicked behaviour when on stage. |

MILLIONAIRE |
New
band founded by ex-evil superstars and dEUS guitarist, Tim Van Haemel. Dave Schroyen does drums, Aldo Struyf plays keyboards, Bas Remans does bass, and Ben Wijers plays second guitar.
In spirit, they are the true successors to Evil Superstars, as they play extremely
loud and amazingly wicked and semi-chaotic 'rock music'. After they will fire their P/A-guy, they'll become truly great. |
www.millionaire |
MINTZKOV LUNA |
Promising band from Antwerp with young but talented musicians. They won the humo rock rally in 2000, with the aid of their excellent song 'Santa Luna'. The band plays songs inspired by Sonic Youth, but with a poppy twist added to it. In february 2001, they presented their first and promising single 'Copper' to the world. Expect to hear more of them by the end of the year. |

MUSICKNESS |
Nor a musician, nor a band, this is the management behind dEUS, DAAU, Cinérex and Vive La Fête. Until 1998, they also managed Evil Superstars, Moondog Jr. and all of Rudy’s bands, until they dropped all of them because they weren’t financially profitable. |
www.musickness |
NEMO |
Belgian band from the nineties which played ingenious urban popsongs. A lack of easy tunes or a flashy frontman stood in the way of the success they probably deserved, and the band quietly disappeared from the scene in 1998. Drummer Herman Houbrechts found a new job in Dead Man Ray, Mitsoobishy Jacson and Mauro's Inferno's, and singer/composer Peter Houben has been seen in Ultracowboy and Mitsoobishy Jacson. |

NOPPE, TOMAS |
He joined Gore Slut in 1996, where he plays the guitar, and also played with Rudy in 'Heaven's Basement' once in July 2000. He has occasionally been spotted live on stage with Kiss My Jazz too, and is reportedly in Elko's Blijweert's Bad Influence, and a band called Elohim as well. |

NOVASTAR |
Extremely popular (in Belgium) band of Joost Zwegers. He won the Rock Rally in 1996 on his own, and debuted in 2000 with his album 'Novastar'. He scored big success with a handful of singles- all of them love songs in a traditional style. I'm not fond of his music, but his huge sales and sold-out concerts predict he'll be around for ages. |
